The Goat Broke Loose is Vermont’s premiere Zydeco Band, and has played throughout New England, including at the New World Festival, the Quechee Balloon Festival, and the Champlain Valley Festival. Jeremiah McLane (accordion/vocals), Ted Mortimer (guitar/vocals), Linda Boudreault (rubboard/vocals), Colin McCaffrey (bass/vocals) and Marcus Copening (drums) play traditional Zydeco dance music from Southwest Louisianan, as well as blues, funk and swamp-pop.
Jeremiah (accordion, vocals) is the founder-director of the Floating Bridge Music Camp and teaches regularly at summer music programs throughout the US. In 2006, he received National Public Radio’s “favorite picks” award for his second solo recording, Smile When You’re Ready, in 2013 the French music magazine Trad Mag’s “BRAVO” award for his fifth release, Hummingbird, and in 2016 his CD ‘The Wind Among the Reeds’ won the Montpelier Times-Argus “Album of the year” award. Ted Mortimer (Guitar, vocals), spent 10 years performing and recording in Los Angeles before moving to the Upper Valley. In 1987 he formed Dr. Burma, which enjoyed a 25-year run as one of New England’s most popular soul/rock bands. He has backed up Bo Diddley and opened for BB King, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and many others. Ted’s guitar playing is featured on Linda’s jazz CD Alone With You, Dr. Burma’s One Bite Won’t Kill You, and many other local and regional releases. CDs. Linda Boudreault’s (vocals, rubboard), unique and soulful singing has won her a devoted following from New England to the Caribbean. Lead singer in Dr. Burma for over 25 years, Linda has also performed with Dartmouth’s Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, and the Vermont Jazz Ensemble. Her jazz CD, Alone With You, was released in August 2001. Colin McCaffrey (bass, vocals) is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer who has released many award-winning recordings with his own band The Stone Cold Roosters, and Vermont artists like Patti Casey, Myra Flynn, Justin Levinson, Lewis Franco, Pete Sutherland, Christine Malcolm, Lizzy Mandell and many more.
