Description

Dutch classical piano virtuoso Annemieke Spoelstra and master accordionist from Vermont Jeremiah McLane make unique arrangements based on traditional folk melodies from the 18th to the 21st centuries. They perform compositions by Piazzolla, Dvorak, Bartok, Poulenc, Hovhaness as well as original works by Jeremiah McLane. Their sound is simultaneously classical, improvisational, exuberant, introspective, and passionate.

Jeremiah plays a wide variety of ethnic musical styles from Northern and Eastern Europe as well as American idioms such as jazz, swing, blues, and Zydeco. He holds a Master’s in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory of Music and has composed numerous pieces for film and theatre. He has received National Public Radio’s “favorite picks” award for his second solo recording, Smile When You’re Ready, and French music magazine Trad Mag’s “BRAVO” award for his fifth release, Hummingbird. He has taught and performed throughout the United States and Europe, including such venues as the Royal Festival Hall in London, at the Picolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina and currently teaches at St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vermont.

Annemieke has performed concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and the USA. She studied classical piano at the Conservatory in Zwolle, The Netherlands, where she earned her Bachelor and Masters as Performing Artist for soloist, chamber music and art song accompaniment. In 2001 she was a finalist at the international Nadia and Lili Boulanger competition in Paris, France. Ms. Spoelstra performs and teaches piano at St. Michael’s College, and is accompanist for the Vermont Youth Orchestra chorus and chorale.
