About the Camp
UPDATE: As of August 7, the camp is nearly full, please email Jeremiah if you would still like to register: jeremiahmclane@gmail.com
Floating Bridge Music Camp has been at its present location since 2006, on the eastern shore of Newfound Lake, between Bristol and Plymouth, New Hampshire. The place has been in my father’s family since 1900, and we will occupy three houses built originally as a home for ‘wayward’ boys. Each house has several single and double occupancy rooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. The weekend will include classes in instrument technique and repertoire presented by Jenna, Owen and Jeremiah, jam sessions (both instructor led and non-led), an all camp ‘performance’ of tunes learned, a staff concert, and of course what makes a camp truly great: your own inventions. For non-musical activities, there is the beautiful Newfound lake, a sauna, a tennis court and boat ramp. There is also great hiking across the lake on Mt. Cardigan and many smaller back roads for bicycling. Housing is in shared or private rooms in one of three houses (when registering please indicate a preference if you have one).
- The Big House: where much of the action takes place, hence possibly noisier.
- Twin Oaks: fewer rooms, potentially a bit quieter, although classes will take place there during the day.
- The Garaggio: only two rooms, near the playhouse where performances and classes take place. Bathroom facilities but no showers.
The weekend begins with check in on Friday at 5pm, and ends at 2pm Sunday, after lunch. Meals provided: Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast lunch & dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch. Classes will be Friday evening (1), Saturday (2 in am, 2 in pm) and Sunday (1 in am), followed by an all camp jam before lunch. There will also be led jams after Friday evening class.

We last held camp in 2018, so things might be a bit different for those of you who have been before. This year, there won’t be a particular theme, or genre, of music that we’re offering. We’ll start by teaching the same tunes to everyone in three different groups (fiddle, accordion, guitar). On Saturday afternoon we’ll make three groups that each include fiddles, accordions & guitars, and we’ll work on playing these tunes in an ensemble. Saturday evening there will be a staff concert, followed by jams, dances, whatever…
